If so – an exciting opportunity has opened at the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) for a full-time Campaigns and Special Projects Officer.

 

Organisational Context 

HACSU is one of Victoria’s fastest growing unions. Our members are at the forefront of nation-changing initiatives such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and reforms to the public mental health system. HACSU is the Victorian No2 Branch of the Health Services Union.

 

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and driven individual who can work with HACSU leadership and build relationships with HACSU members and key external stakeholders (e.g. other unions, peak bodies, advocacy organisations and politicians) to deliver on strategic outcomes.

Reporting to the State Secretary, the Campaigns and Special Projects Officer will be responsible for strategic development, leading and implementing political, industrial and community campaigns on issues of importance to members, including campaigns around Enterprise Agreements.

The Campaigns and Special Projects Officer will lead a team of approximately 6-7 individuals, comprising of the Media, Membership and Recruitment areas of the Union. The successful candidate must have good leadership skills and be able to develop innovative individuals as well as being able to provide ongoing professional development and support of the team.

The Campaigns and Special Projects Officer will not only be responsible for campaigns, but also for the “membership experience” at HACSU and ensure that members remain informed and able to participate in their union.

The successful candidate must be innovative, creative and have an eye for detail. They must be able to deliver strategies with measurable actions and outcomes and be able to problem solve complex issues by being able to mitigate issues and assess risks and benefits.

 

The Person

We are seeking candidates who have a strong understanding of and commitment to the union movement and can confidentially lobby politicians and other external stakeholders and maintain those relationships.

The successful candidate will have proven campaign and media experience, with high level knowledge of digital campaigning.

They must also have strong leadership skills as well as high level digital campaigning skills.

The successful candidate will be innovative, creative and highly motivated.

 

Benefits

This is a full-time position (38-hours per week, Monday to Friday) and the successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the Heath and Community Services Union (HSU Victoria No.2 Branch) Employee Collective Agreement 2017 which includes:

  • Generous salary and superannuation package.
  • 5 weeks’ annual leave.
  • 13 Rostered Days Off (RDOs) per year.

The position is based in our office in Carlton, Victoria.

The successful applicant will be required to perform some out-of-hours work and undertake regional and interstate travel.
