Who we are

HACSU is a powerful member-led union specialising in the Victorian Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol and Disability Sectors. We organise and campaign for good wages, conditions and job security and better services.

With the introduction of the NDIS and the expanding Mental Health sector, our members are facing major changes not only at work, but to the sector as a whole. Whilst these changes present challenges to the union, they are major opportunities to build better working conditions for members, and better services for the consumers that HACSU members support.

The Job

We are looking for a gun organiser to join our team! The role involves working with members and the broader HACSU team to campaign for improve members’ working lives and to support members through individual disciplinary and collective workplace matter.

About you

  • You are passionate about improving the lives of workers and people living with a mental illness or disability.
  • You are able to work unsupervised but also thrive within a team
  • You are highly skilled in union organising with at least 2 years’ experience as an Organiser, or as a HACSU union delegate.
  • You have a great understanding of theories of organising;
  • You are committed to the union’s values – fairness, compassion, equality, and dignity of workers;
  • You show strong initiative and adaptability to address industrial and organising matters

What you’ll do

You will be working with fantastic members to empower them to tackle workplace grievances in the workplace and within the union.

You’ll be out on the road daily, meeting with members on a collective and individual basis. You will use your industrial knowledge in addition to common sense to address these grievances as well as individual representations.  You will use your understanding of the Enterprise Agreement making process to organise members and campaign to improve working conditions.

Usual working hours are between 8.30 and 5pm, however, you will be required on occasion to be flexible in these times to best meet members needs.

To perform this job, you will be required to have a valid driver’s license and a valid right of entry permit (or the ability to attain one).
