Certainty for Disability: Stop Privatisation Campaign update

2017-03-08

Privatisation update

Our campaign against the government ill-considered privatisation plans continues, at the same time we are demanding comprehensive job security and employment conditions protections to protect us in any event.

Note that to date, the Andrews Labor Government HAS NOT announced a final decision on how or indeed if it will proceed with the privatisation of Victorian DHHS disability services. The government says is still researching sector capacity, quality issues, cost implications and options.

It is important all members are clear that despite the ongoing uncertainty, at this stage non-government or private service providers are not taking over any DHHS group homes.

The great uncertainty has been going on for more than a year and it appears that it will continue for some time given the complexity and size of the Victorian government services.

WE MUST use this opportunity to campaign against any privatisation! We will not be able to build any leverage in the government’s process if we do not show our strength. All members must participate in campaign events and speak to families of the people we support.

So far our campaign has built significant strength, without the action HACSU members have been taking, we wouldn’t have secured ongoing meetings with the Ministers, the NDIS implementation taskforce and the proposed disability workforce registration and accreditation system. Whilst these wins are worth celebrating, the most important part of the campaign is still ahead of us. If all members participate in upcoming actions, we will be able to influence the government’s decision.

Make sure you visit the campaign page within the HACSU members’ portal for member only information.
