Certainty for the future of Victoria's Public Disability Services

2016-09-02

Certainty for Disability

In December last year the Victorian Government broke its promise to not privatise public disability services. While the Government has repeatedly said its decision isn’t final, the fact remains that you don’t announce a decision to investigate privatisation if you aren’t serious about following through.

The Government has told HACSU it hopes to make a decision before the end of the year, which means our anti-privatisation campaign is now more important that ever. If we stand together and demand certainty for disability, we can keep public disability services in public hands. Over the next few months we’ll be throwing everything we’ve got at the Government and every member needs to get involved.

  • Across Victoria, local campaign committees are organising community protests and lobbying Government Ministers and MPs in their local electorates.
  • We’re also producing a new wave of campaign posters and flyers, which you’ll soon see cropping up around Melbourne.
  • HACSU is also organising a major protest rally on Saturday 12 November at the ALP State Conference in Melbourne, so save the date!

We’re confident we can win, but members and delegates have told us we need to prepare for any outcome. That’s why in addition to the campaign, HACSU is lobbying for a separate agreement, which will guarantee that whatever happens no DHHS worker will be worse off, either now or into the future.
We’re demanding:

  • All wages, conditions and entitlements are preserved, with a commitment to future improvements.
  • The DHHS EBA will continue protecting existing workers and also apply to new workers.
  • A guarantee that all entitlements are recognised and are portable into the future.
  • Guaranteed job security.
  • Protection of superannuation.
  • Recognition of all service for all purposes into the future.

Members are asked to join the campaign against privatisation.

A Campaign Kit has been mailed to delegates and workplaces providing members with activities to organise at work and in your region. You an also download a copy here!
