We are seeking to fill three full-time vacancies: an Admin/Receptionist; a Relief Organiser; and a Growth Organiser/Recruiter.

ADMIN / RECEPTION

Full time position.

The Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) represents the interests of workers in the disability, mental health and alcohol & other drugs sectors across Vic.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and dynamic individual providing administrative support to our industrial / legal team.  You will be working in a fast paced environment with a variety of duties including: 

  • answer calls professionally and efficiently
  • Maintenance and operation of Membership database
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks
  • Dealing with external correspondence creating membership and induction packs

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who feels strongly about providing equity and fairness in workplaces.   While experience in the trade movement is not a requirement of the role, it is essential that the successful can demonstrate their commitment to the values of the Trade Union Movement

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated support / administrative qualities, reflective of the Union environment promoting the values and principles of unionism.
  • Commitment  to  the  underlying  principles  of  the  union  movement,  social  justice,  community development and equity.
  • As the first point of contact for members and stakeholders it is imperative that the successful applicant has a warm, friendly disposition.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve issues arising from a demanding workload, high levels of expectation and competing priorities in the workplace.
  • Proven ability to positively contribute to change and innovation.
  • Ability to follow the duties through to its completion including high attention to details.
  • Demonstrated communication, analytical, problem solving and dispute resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and time management skills.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Pro using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook

GROWTH ORGANISER / RECRUITER

Full time position.

Are you a motivated individual with a passion for social justice and trade union values?

Do you enjoy getting out of the office and meeting new people?

Do you have experience/interest in brand awareness and promotions?

Join Victoria’s only specialist union for mental health and disability services in building the collective voice of thousands of valuable community service workers.

The Growth organiser has responsibility for maintaining and building membership levels and will be focusing on our all Sectors of representation and will work as part of a state-wide team focussed on the strategic growth in targeted areas. 

Key Selection criteria

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and promote the values and principals of unionism to improve the lives of working people.
  • The ability to recruit new members to the union
  • Ability to work toward professional recruitment goals and key performance indicators
  • Customer service and sales skills
  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with initiate and drive to reach professional targets
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to motivate non-members to join the union and educate them as Union members
  • An understanding of what is required to build power in workplaces and industries
  • The capacity to undertake workplace research, to write reports and to complete computer-based records.
  • Ability to represent workers in disputes and problem solve resolutions
  • Well-organised, punctual and able to work to deadlines
  • Must hold a current drivers' licence
  • Have basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Internet)

At times, you will need to be flexible work odd hours and weekends.

RELIEF ORGANISER

Full time position.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and dynamic individual!  Join Victoria’s only specialist union for mental health and disability services in building the collective voice of thousands of valuable community service workers.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment with a variety of duties including: 

  • Campaigning with members for improved wages and conditions and for improvements in working conditions.
  • Representing works in both metro and regional areas
  • Ability to work autonomously and be responsible for organising and campaigning in allocated geographic areas.
  • Ability to support members and work closely with workplace delegates including the facilitation of delegate education and training in conjunction with Lead Organiser.
  • Advocate for workers’ rights and conditions. 
  • Ability to negotiate and
  • Communication skills are essential.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Commitment to the underlying principles of the union movement, social justice, community development and equity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve issues arising from a demanding workload, high levels of expectation and competing priorities in the workplace.
  • Ability to positively contribute to change and innovation.
  • Ability to develop and implement workplace organising and campaigning plans.
  • Demonstrated communication, analytical, problem solving and dispute resolution skills.
  • Well-developed advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current industrial legislation and policies, including Fair Work Commission and of other legislation as they pertain to Industrial Relations.
  • Decision-making and time management skills.
  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
