Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) is the Victorian No.2 Branch of the Health Services Union. HACSU is seeking a full time Area Organiser: Organising and Campaigning to work in the Union’s Melbourne office.
HACSU is an industry based Union representing Mental Health Nurses, Health Professionals, Alcohol and other Drug, Workers, and Disability Support Workers, and other Direct Care and Support Staff in Victorian Mental health and Disability Services
The priority of the Union is to grow the strength and the power of HACSU by advocating for and protecting the professional and industrial interests of all members. This position will provide leadership to delegates and members with a focus on organising and campaigning; initially with a focus on Mental Health campaigning in 2016.
Salary: HACSU provides an attractive salary and conditions, commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience.
HACSU is a campaigning union and we campaign with members for improved wages and conditions and for improvements in mental health, alcohol and drugs and disability policy.
This is a challenging role where you will have responsibility for workplaces in a specified geographic area including regional Victoria.
We are looking for a motivated person who can work co-operatively with other members of the HACSU team.
You will work closely with the lead organiser developing workplace and campaigning plans for your designated areas.
With the support and guidance of the leadership team, you will assist in union-wide campaigns.
You will be able to work autonomously and be responsible for organising and campaigning in your geographic area.
You will provide support to members and work closely with workplace delegates including the facilitation of delegate education and training in conjunction with HACSU Educator.
You must be able to advocate for workers rights and conditions accordingly advanced negotiation and communication skills are essential.
You must be an analytical thinker who can work to deadlines and manage issues to outcomes.
Qualifications and experience as a Mental Health Clinician preferred.
