HACSU calls on Victorian and Commonwealth Governments to take action on disability

2022-01-20

HACSU has today written to Premier Daniel Andrews, Victorian Minister for Disability Anthony Carbines, and Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme Linda Reynolds, calling for urgent action as the Omicron variant continues to have huge impacts across the disability sector.

HACSU has identified four key areas that require action.

  1. Workforce
  2. Access to Rapid Antigen Tests
  3. PPE
  4. Mandates

The union is calling for the creation of a workforce strategy — which is long overdue. Additionally, HACSU is calling for a variety of measures to address ongoing staffing and safety issues. Some measures include incentive payments, fatigue guidelines, clear PPE requirements, worker vaccination hubs, and free Rapid Antigen Tests.

Disability workers need support. The industry is under enormous strain, and without assistance it will become even more dangerous for both workers and the people they support.
