NDIS Worker Screening Check Extended

2021-07-30

The below information comes from the Victorian Government Department of Justice and Community Safety

Changes to NDIS Worker Requirements - Extension to 31 January 2022

NDIS workers who were screened by their employer under Victoria's Safety Screening Policy prior to 1 February 2021, but who do not have a Working with Children Check (WWCC), will have a further six months to apply for an NDIS Check. Formal communication will be issued by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission shortly.

The transitional arrangements that apply to you will depend on which safety screening checks you had through your organisation before 1 February 2021:

  1. NDIS workers who have been screened by their employer under Victoria's Safety Screening Policy prior to 1 February 2021, but do not have a WWCC, can continue to work without an NDIS Clearance if they apply for an NDIS Check by 31 January 2022.
  2. NDIS workers who met the requirements of Victoria's Safety Screening Policy prior to 1 February 2021 and have a WWCC can continue to work, but must obtain an NDIS Clearance before their WWCC expires.
  3. All new workers are required to obtain an NDIS Clearance before they start work in a risk assessed role with a registered NDIS provider. This includes workers who are starting with a new employer.

View the Safety Screening Policy on the Victorian NDIS Quality and Safeguards webpage.

Victorian Disability Worker Registration

Please note that NDIS Screening Checks are different and seperate to the VDWC Disability Worker Registration. At this stage, the Victorian registration is optional. We strongly encourage members to apply for registration, especially as it's free for the first year.

Learn about VDWC Registration on their website.

NDIS Screening Check: Federal requirement, managed through Victorian Government. Mandatory, with varying deadlines for workers in different situations.
VDWC Registration: Victoria only. Optional, but highly encouraged
