UNION WIN: Backpay for workers who moved between Public Mental Health Services after July 2021

2022-11-25

Mental health workers should not be left worse off for moving between public mental health services during bargaining.

Many workers have moved in the last two years, as the pandemic had massive impacts on our professional and personal lives.

HACSU advocated for a worker who moved from a metro to regional service in mid-2022, but had only received backpay from the regional service and not their former metro employer as they moved before the new EBA was approved.

In a union win, this worker will be getting backpay from July 2021 AND the annual retention bonus from their previous employer. And we've confirmed many other mental health workers in similar situations are entitled to applicable backpay and retention payments from their previous employers, not just their current service.

Mental health workers are needed in every service in the state, and those who have chosen to move should not be disadvantaged.

If you are impacted by this and need assistance, please contact your delegate, organiser, or HACSU ASSIST for advice.
