Rules and Policies

  • HACSU belongs to the broader Health Services Union (HSU) and is officially known as the HSU Victoria No. 2 Branch.

HACSU's Rules

The rules of the HSU set out the governance arrangements of the organisation and determine the members and industries which the union can represent. In addition to the rules, HACSU has a number of policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of governance.

The current rules of the HSU are published on the website of the Fair Work Commission, along with a record of previous rule changes.

Resigning from the Union

Last updated 4 July 2022

The HSU rules state that:

(b) A member may resign from membership of the Union by notice in writing addressed and delivered to the Secretary of the member's Branch.

(c) Where the member ceases to be eligible to become a member of the Union, the notice of resignation will take effect on the later of the following two dates:
(i) on the day on which the notice is received; or
(ii) on the day specified in the notice, which is a day not earlier than the day when the member ceased to be eligible to become a member.

(d) Where the member has not ceased to be eligible to become a member of the Union, the notice of resignation will take effect on the later of the following two dates:
(i) at the end of two weeks after the notice is received by the Union; or
(ii) on the day specified in the notice.

(e) A notice delivered to the Secretary of the member's Branch shall be taken to have been received by the Union when it was delivered.

We will accept emails addressed to membership@hacsu.asn.au, faxes to (03) 9650 8122, or letters to PO Box 206, Carlton South, VIC 3053. Please address your resignation letter to "The Branch Secretary", and note the relevant notice period as per the HSU rules.

If you are unemployed, on extended leave (e.g. on maternity leave or time off due to WorkCover matter) or on unpaid leave, please contact our membership team prior to resigning as waivers are available.

It helps us to know why people are leaving the union, so we'd greatly appreciate it if you could include a brief explanation in your resignation notice (e.g. retirement, changing industries, moving interstate).
